Ron Culp was awarded the First Annual Citizen of the Year Award at the Satellite Beach City Council meeting on Wednesday, October 20th. This award recognizes and shows appreciation to Satellite Beach residents whose volunteerism, service, and dedication have made a significant contribution to the City of Satellite Beach.

Ron has made a significant impact over the past years as a leader of the volunteers of the 21-day Salute to the Flag. His leadership and dedication continue the legacy that Scotty Culp began in 1987 while promoting the idea that the American flag itself represents a pride-worthy legacy that is demonstrated by the group of volunteers that rise and retire flags at the Scotty Culp Municipal Center several days per year. He always presents with a smile, pleasing demeanor and a “can-do” attitude. This amazing resident has been an asset to the COVID Vaccine programs, administered by the city, by providing assistance in key areas during the drive-thru events. He is active in Honor Flight, a nationwide network taking deserving veterans to the many monuments in Washington, DC.  He meets with eligible veterans in the city and insures they have had the opportunity to participate in those flights. He was a long-time member of the Marine Patrol Team and graduate of the Citizens Police Academy. He patrolled canals and areas around Samson’s Island 1-2 times a week and supported other city events requiring the MP presence. Ron has also developed, and with the assistance of other City Departments, implements the Flag Birthday Salute for military veterans. He is a graduate of the Satellite Beach Fire Academy, volunteered on the Oyster Bed, Sea Grass Project at Samson Island, is a life member of VFW Post 4643 in Satellite Beach and wrote articles to the Beachside Magazine honoring Veterans.

Thank you for all you have done for the City of Satellite Beach, Ron!!
