Community for a Lifetime Seminars

The City of Satellite Beach has been moving forward with the State of Florida initiative, “Communities for a Lifetime” for our elder residents.  The City of Satellite Beach in conjunction with Wuesthoff Health System, is providing a series of lectures addressing health issues.

The Sea Turtle Preservation Society offers guided Sea Turtle Walks in Satellite Beach beginning June and ending in July.  Reservations are mandatory.  You must call 676-1701 to reserve a space.  What a great event for the whole family.

Youth programs abound this summer at the Sat. Bch. Public Library!  Call the Library at 779-4004 to find out more about the Book Bucks, Stitchery, and the Wednesday Program “Whole Wide World @ My Library.”

 COMPUTER TRAINING

The Satellite Beach Recreation Dept. in cooperation with SeniorNet will offer computer training opportunities this fall.

 

All classes have limited enrollment and because of their popularity fill up quickly.  Please contact our office after August 1st at 773-6458 for more specific information and availability.

 

Instructors Needed

We are expanding the adult computer curriculum at the DRS Community Center.  Instructors are needed with a good working knowledge of Windows, the Internet, Microsoft Word, Database, and/or Spreadsheets. Apply at the Recreation Dept.  Instructor training provided.

Adult Heartsaver CPR Courses

CPR Pro for 2-year Certification  $30 (includes certification card – books available for $10)

Saturday, April 19                             9am-1pm

Saturday, May 31                              9am-1pm

Friends and Family CPR (non-Medical) $20 (includes certification card – books available for $10)

Saturday, June 7                               9am-12noon

Location:  Satellite Beach Fire Department.  Registration and payment guarantees you a spot in the class.  Make checks payable to  City of Satellite Beach and mail or drop payments to: Satellite Beach Fire Dept., 1390 S. Patrick Dr., Satellite Beach, FL 32937.  Questions or concerns can be directed to the Fire Dept. at 773-4405  M-F 8:30am-5pm.

AARP Senior Driving Program

The SB Police Dept.  in conjunction with AARP will host an 8-hr. driving course.  Certificate is valid for 3 years. Instructor:  Cmdr. Jeff Pearson, SB Police Dept. Ages:  Adults 55 years and up  Dates & Times:  Fridays, July 25 & Aug. 1 @ 1:00-5:00pm  (must attend both classes in the session) Location:  DRS Community Center-Concession  Cost: $10   To sign up, contact  Shawna Lopez at  SB Police Dept. at 773-4400 ext. 131.

 

 

Red Cross Babysitting Basics

The Red Cross will be offering a 1-day Babysitting Basics for 11-15yr olds at the Satellite Beach Civic Ctr.-Oleander Rm.

  • Thur, Apr 10 – 8:30am-3:30pm $65

Jr. Safe Boating Course

Ages: 9-17 yrs

Attendance at the 3-day course is required to obtain a Boating Safety Education ID card, as required by FL State Law to operate a boat.  Students must attend all 3 days to qualify.

The swimming pool at Satellite High School will be CLOSED this summer due to the construction.  Other options for summer swim classes are: Indian Harbour Beach 773-0552; Brevard Co. Pool in Palm Bay, 952-2833;  Cocoa Beach, 868-3240; Suntree YMCA  259-2929.
