50th Birthday Celebration

Kenny Berger
Professional Baseball Player

Kenny Berger grew up beachside and is a 1973 graduate of Satellite High School.

Kenny is very fortunate to have grown up in this area having the opportunity to play sports in the late 60’s and early 70’s. “My father Irwin was a tremendous influence in my life and both he and Irene, my mother were very involved in the sports community. I started and played every game of varsity baseball during the three years on the Satellite High School team. I was extremely lucky to have Les Hall as my baseball coach”.

After high school Kenny attended Valencia Community College on a baseball scholarship. While there, he was named to the 1974 Junior College All American Team and was drafted in the 5th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. “That particular year, I was the youngest player chosen out of college”. In 1975 he was named to the Appalachian League All-Star Team. After playing six years in the Philadelphia Organization, he retired in 1979 and returned to Brevard County. At that time he took over the family roofing business, which was started by his father in 1952. In 1996, he decided to close this business and returned to his first love, baseball. He started working for the Florida Marlins as a groundskeeper at the spring training facility in Viera. In January 2006, he was promoted to assistant head groundskeeper for the Washington Nationals Spring Training Facility in Viera.

Kenny and his wife Mary Catherine just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They are proud parents of one daughter, Ariel Rose who is 14 years old.

“I feel very fortunate to have grown up beachside and in Brevard County. I am especially happy and proud to say I am from the Satellite High School class of 1973”.
