Revised 8/5/2009 PELICAN BEACH PARK & PAVILIONS
FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
1.What are the operating hours? You are allowed to use the pavilions between the hours of 8:00a.m. to dusk.
2. What are some of the features of this park? This park now rents all 5 pavilions. There is a lovely ADA compliant playground with a sitting wall for all to enjoy. On the south end of the park is a Beach Overlook that is a great place to stand and view the ocean. New ADA restrooms are located on the north end of the park. There are fresh water showers located at some dune crossovers & restroom area. There are also 2 sand volleyball courts - 1 of which is available for rental.
3. How do I get my stuff to the pavilion? Unfortunately due to the landscaping and irrigation there is no way to drive to your pavilion. All materials must be carried or carted to your location. There are sidewalks to all pavilions, so you might consider bringing a wagon, dolly or coolers with wheels to aid in moving items to your pavilion. A kid's wagon works great! The closest off loading area is at the flagpole loop on the north end of the park.
4. I've hired a caterer with a smoker grill - can it be parked by my pavilion? Unfortunately no for the same reasons above - to preserve our landscaping and irrigation systems. We have reserved a special parking spot (north of the restrooms) for just this reason. Commercial grills & catering trucks are required to park here.
5. I'm hosting a birthday party - can I have an inflatable slide/ bouncer / tent here? We're sorry all bounce houses, inflatables, water slides, pools, tents, climbing walls, pony rides, shelters, etc are strictly prohibited. Please check with the Recreation Dept. at (321) 773-6458 for clarification and approval on any items not listed. A penalty will be imposed for any violation. Remember lawn games, such as lawn darts and horseshoes are also prohibited in our park as are extra tables & chairs on the lawn.
6. Can I have amplified music and/or a band in the pavilion? No. A small portable radio/CD turned down is usually adequate. Loud noise is prohibited and defined in the City Code 26.81-26.83 as "any noise, which annoys or disturbs the peace of others." If a noise complaint is made to the SB Police Dept., one verbal warning is issued to the renter. Continued noncompliance will result in the SBPD requiring renter to cease music. Make sure your music cannot be heard outside your pavilion area.
7. Can we have alcohol? Beer and wine are permitted in your rented pavilion area only - and must stay in your pavilion area. It is the permit holders legal responsibility to ensure that minors do not have access to alcohol at your pavilion. Hard liquor and glass containers are prohibited. The selling of alcohol is strictly prohibited unless you have a license to sell alcohol. Brevard County ordinances prohibit alcohol on the beach.
8. Can I have a late-night event? No - the pavilion hours are from 8:00am to dusk only.
9. Am I allowed to decorate? Of course, just remember the rules. We do not allow staples, nails, glue, or tacks in the pavilions or on the tables. You can be very creative with string, tape, or fishing line! Also no stakes or stake type devices in the ground around the pavilions - please do not disturb or destroy our sod, landscaping or irrigation systems.
10. Can we have a fire? No wood or ground fires are allowed. There is a permanent charcoal grill at each pavilion. Any beach bonfires require a permit issued by the Satellite Beach Fire Dept. They can be reached at (321) 773-4405 Mon-Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm. Bonfire permits will only be issued between November 1st thru Feb. 28th (due to turtle nesting season March 1 - October 31) and may also be revoked during drought conditions.
11. Can we use the volleyball courts? The east volleyball court can now be reserved provided you have rented any one of the our pavilions on that date. The west court will be available to the general public on a first-come first-served basis. Nets will remain up at all times, however please bring your own volleyball.
12. Can I rent the playground? You and your family are always welcome to use our playground but it can not be rented. It is available for general public use.
13. Can I bring my dog to the park? Dogs on leashes are permitted to visit and stroll through the park, but we suggest not bringing your animals to the rental pavilions or playground areas. Please pickup after your pet. Brevard County ordinances prohibit dogs on the beach unless they are service animals.
14. Do I need to bring trash cans? There are trash receptacles at each pavilion. Any large items or trash overflow must be taken directly to the dumpster. You may want to bring a few extra bags to help carry this trash to the dumpsters, located at the north and south ends of the parking lot. All clean-up must be completed by the end of your rental period. Tabletops, floor and adjacent ground must be clean of refuse and debris resulting from rental use. As the scouts say...."leave it cleaner than you found it."
15. Can my teenagers have a party there? It is mandatory that adult supervision be on-site for participants under 21 years of age. Basically, the adult permit holder must be on-site the entire time of the activity. Just remember lawn games such as lawn darts, horseshoes, etc. nor extra tables and chairs on the grass are NOT PERMITTED.
16. If there is a problem during my weekend rental who do I contact? On the weekends or after 5pm, if a situation arises that affects your reservation and requires city assistance, contact the Satellite Beach Police Dept. at (321) 773-4400. They will dispatch the appropriate assistance as needed. If a situation arises Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm, contact the Recreation Dept. at (321) 773-6458.
17. What is the refund policy? Refunds are available if requested 3 business days prior to your reserved date. A full refund of your rent and deposit will be mailed to you approximately two weeks following the notice of cancellation. Note: if you paid by check within 30 days of the rental we must allow 30 days for the check to clear before issuing a refund. Refunds requested within 3 business days of your reserved date will result in forfeiture of your rental fee; however, your damage deposit will be mailed by the same method as listed above. Refund requests will not be accepted if left on voice mail.
18. What are some of the reasons that other renters have lost their deposits? Parties that are too big for the pavilion (more people than were permitted); not cleaning up after the rental; using staple guns to affix decorations; putting large objects on the grass such as horseshoes, water slides, bounce houses, etc.; music too loud; parking on the grass or sidewalks. Recreation Dept. staff, Satellite Beach Police Dept., Park Rangers, and other city workers monitor the park activity and will report violations.
19. All of the pavilions are rented! Where else can I go? We're sorry that you won't get to use our park. If possible, plan earlier next time. Other possibilities you may want to try (in order as you drive south down A1A): Bicentennial (across from Shoppers World) and Millennium (nearly across from Space Coast Credit Union). These are rented through the City of Indian Harbour Beach and can be reached at (321) 773-0552. Howard Futch Park (formerly known as Paradise Beach Park and across from Bunky's). This is rented through Brevard County Parks & Recreation at (321) 255-4400. Nance Park (near 5th Avenue) is rented through the City of Indialantic and can be reached at (321) 723-2242
20. I see memorials there - what a neat idea! Can I arrange for one too? All memorials are handled by our Recreation Dept. Director, Kerry Stoms. For more information you can reach her at (321) 773-6458 or by email: kstoms@satellitebeach.org
21. Can I bring my grill / smoker/ turkey fryer to the park? No - only the existing grills can be used. You are welcome to fry or boil on top of the permanently built charcoal grills - but you can not use or bring an alternate heat source (no wood, no propane, etc.)
22. Can I park along A1A to get closer to my rental pavilion to unload my gear? Can I do it to unload my gear? No - there is no parking along A1A at any time as it is against the law. Parking is allowed in the designated parking lot on the north side. All loading and unloading can be done at the flagpole loop and carted to your rental pavilion.
23. Can I get married on the beach? Of course you can with proper planning.
