Bring your canine along with you while you exercise. Their
companionship can boost your mood and strengthen the bond you have with your pet, not to mention
there will be added incentive to keep to an exercise routine.
Ř In hot
weather, walk your dog in grassy areas to avoid burning his paws.
Ř If you
(or your dog) are starting a new exercise program, start off gradually and enjoy two 15 minute walks
instead of one 30 minute workout.
Ř Swimming
for canine health is an excellent source of exercise providing you choose a safe body of water
October 26 Halloween Howl The SB Dog Park hosts this annual event for the enjoyment of the dogs and their crazy owners who dress them up for Halloween. We encourage the dogs to participate with an adult handler, however children can join in the fun as long as an adult is also present with the child. The Howl begins at 1:00pm at the Satellite Beach Dog Park – bring dog in costume or come earlier if you need to “costume prepare.” The cost is $3/dog and you can pay at the park on the day of the event as no reservations are required. Remember, Dog Park requirements apply (printed rabies shot records & county tags).
This is a “positive based” (does not use traditional methods, nor favors use of choke or prong collars) basic course. Learn how to teach your dog to pay attention to you, sit, lie down, come when called, walk beside you without pulling and stay. The class meets on Tuesdays, 8/12-9/30 or Thurdays 9/4-10/23. Both classes meet from 7-8pm at the David R. Schechter Community Center in Satellite Beach. To sign up for the $85 class, stop by the Recreation Office, 1089 S. Patrick Drive, Satellite Beach.
With a little preparation, you and your pets can reduce
your stress when a hurricane approaches. Know in advance which shelters or hotels permit pets and
make an evacuation kit that includes food and medicine for your pets and don’t forget a copy of
your immunization record. For information on Brevard
County evacuation shelters (and which ones are pet friendly) check out their website www.brevardanimalservices.com
