Lori Schiavone Satellite Beach tennis coordinator and Andrea
Porter (a part-time Kanub and Satellite Beach resident), believes that everyone should enjoy the
rewards of playing tennis. She
recently accepted the challenge of adopting a small rural southern Utah city’s fledgling tennis
program.
Some residents of Kanab, Utah wanted to organize a local tennis association so that the local
courts, with cracks big enough for weeds to grow, could be replaced.
With Lori’s help, part-time Satellite and Kanab resident
Andi Porter is asking local tennis players to donate “gently used” tennis items. (clothing
and racquets
–especially kids size, ball baskets and retrievers). Donations
of new cans of balls are helpful because the closest Wal-mart is approximately 90 miles from Kanab. The
donated items will be used to introduce the USTA Quick Start Program to Kanab youth residents.
According to Nina Laycook, Kanab City Councilperson, the
ground work is being completed to have two new courts in Kanab by 2010. “We’re
very excited about the residents of Satellite Beach extending their kindness to our City by
demonstrating their enthusiasm for our efforts here in Kanab.” Donations
are being accepted in the tennis
hut at the DeSoto Courts in Satellite Beach or the Satellite Beach Recreation
