Post Storm Utility Update and Fencing Information
October 3rd, 2017

Please continue to conserve water. Only use what you need for basic hygiene and drinking. Melbourne Water Utility is working diligently to keep us from a boil water notice. This is in effect until further notice.

Brevard County has requested that due to the strain on the sewer system, the excessive rainfall, the sewage is now backlogged in the system.  Residents are asked to limit sewer usage until further notice.

DEBRIS UPDATE: We have worked with Brevard County to establish the Desoto Field site as a citizen drop-off location. This has been completed, and residents may begin dropping off yard debris and wood fence debris beginning on Friday September 15th, from the hours of 7:30am to 3:30pm. This is ONLY for yard debris and wood fence materials, which must be placed in separate piles. Yard debris needs to be placed on the east side of the Desoto parking lot and wood fencing materials on the west side. Please be respectful of others, don’t block the driveway or access through the parking lot.

Please note that you do not have to bring your debris to Desoto Field, as the Brevard County debris contractors will be working in our city once their trucks are in town. Current estimates from Brevard County are that trucks will begin working in the county as early as next week, but we do not yet have a date on when they will be in Satellite Beach. They are expected to make two passes through the City, so please put out as much of your debris as you can this weekend, so that it will be picked up on the first pass. Also, please remember that Waste Management will continue to pick up yard trash in containers, so if you put as much as you can in your containers each week, that will help to reduce the piles more quickly as well. And finally, the Brevard County Solid Waste Management Facilities are open to the public from 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Sunday for disposal of garbage and yard debris. This includes the landfills on Sarno Road in Melbourne and Adamson Road in Cocoa.

Fence Permit Fees Waived: Due to the impact of Hurricane Irma the City will be waiving fence permit fees associated with storm damage through December 31, 2017. It is important that when a permit is required that you still apply for a no-fee permit as this will insure that the contractors are checked out for proper license and insurance. The Building Department can be reached at 773-4409 if you have questions or need further help.

Please remember that unprotected pools are a danger to children in our community. Please make every effort to secure your pool with permanent or temporary fencing as soon as possible. Our Fire Department will be providing and installing, free of charge, the temporary fencing to secure the pools that have down fencing . Please call our Building Department if you need assistance
